A group of scholars who are part of the International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures (IASIL) gathered together at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, in July 2002, to address the theme of "Interrelations: Irish Studies and other forms of knowledge". The essays presented here are interdisciplinary in nature, ranging across the fields of literature, history, politics and cultural studies. Renowned critics such as Terence Brown, Nicolas Greene, Edna Longley, Fintan O'Toole, Ann Saddlemyer, John Branning, Maurice Hermon, Margaret Kelleher, Christopher Murray and Maria Tymoczko extended the dialogue beyond the frontiers of contemporary debate. The creative highlight of the book includes interviews with novelist John Banville and playwright Billy Roche, as well as a poem and a short piece of prose by poet Michael Longley.
