Dr. Máiréad Moriarty is the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at UL, and also a Lecturer in Sociolinguistics and New Media at UL's School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics. Her research focuses on the relationship between language and society with a particular focus on the representation of language and language varieties in the media and in the study of minority language policy and planning. She has published widely in these fields. Some of her more recent publications a monograph entitled 'Globalizing language policy and planning: An Irish language perspective' published by Palgrave in 2015 and articles in key academic journals including The International Journal of the Sociology of Language, Language, Culture and Curriculum and International Journal of Bilingualism.
