In gratitude for his contribution towards the consolidation of Irish Studies in Brazil with the establishment of the William Butler Yeats Chair of Irish Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo, ABEI granted an Honorary Membership to Ambassador Michael Hoey on 29 September 2009.
