On behalf of the Brazilian Association of Irish Studies (ABEI) and W.B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies, University of São Paulo, we want to express our most sincere feelings for the loss of our colleague and friend Carlos Daghlian that was for us an example as professor and researcher in the areas of English, comparative literature and translation. Emeritus Professor at Unesp, Daghilian held important administrative positions at his institution, the Institute of Biosciences, Letters and Exact Sciences (Ibilce), campus in São José do Rio Preto, and in several national funding agencies.
His important participation in newsstands, and competitions in various Brazilian universities, as well as his role as President of the Brazilian Association of University Professors of English (ABRAPUI) with the invaluable support of his dear wife Elza, it will always be remembered.
Among his numerous publications we should mention his tender book review of Passos by Maria Helena Kopschitz (2014) available at the latest issue of ABEI Journal No. 17, 2015. For his admirable career and for his generosity toward students, colleagues and friends, the next issue will be in tribute to the memory of Carlos Daghlian.
