A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN: GENDER STUDIES APPROACHES.

The lecture "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man: Gender Studies Approaches"  was delivered by Professor Tina O'Toole (University of Limerick) at FFLCH-USP, on 31 October, 2012. The event was co-organized by the W.B.Yeats Chair of Irish Studies and the Laboratório de Estudos do Romance (LERo).
Tina O’Toole is a lecturer in Irish literature and cultural studies at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Her work focuses on women’s agency, dissident sexualities, and diasporic and transnational representations. She is a specialist on the literature of the fin de siècle and on Irish prose of the long twentieth century; her current book,The Irish New Woman: Fiction and Feminism at the Fin de Siècle, is forthcoming with Palgrave Macmillan 2013. She has also published on feminist theory and activism, and on migrant and transnational literatures, including a recent special issue of Eire-Ireland: Journal of Irish Studies on "New Approaches to Irish Migration"(Spring/Summer 2012; co-edited with Piaras Mac Einri). Her other books include Irish Literature: Feminist Perspectives (Carysfort Press, 2008; co-edited with Patricia Coughlan); The Dictionary of Munster Women Writers (Cork University Press, 2005); and Documenting Irish Feminisms: The Second Wave (Woodfield Press, 2005; co-authored with Linda Connolly).
